This demonstration is used by various visitors and is likely not to be in its reset state. It is suggested that you start by resetting the demonstration first by clicking the 'Re-Index' button below.

You can then try various searches by going to the basic or advanced search pages.

Then return here and try getting the file types by clicking the 'Get File Types' button below.

Then try updating the index with the 'Update' button below.

Then have a look at the maintenance tools with a view to restricting the indexer to html files only.

Finally try deleting a URL from the index by clicking the 'Delete' button below.

During these stages you may want to try some searches to see how your changes to the engine have affected the results. You should keep in mind the fact that much of this demonstration focuses on the remote administration of the engine. Visitors to a site that uses this engine will only have access to the basic and advanced searches and will not need to get involved with any of the administration tools. You/the administrator will need to use these tools to setup the engine and occasionally update or re-index your website if you add new content or edit any content.

1. If you want to delete your current index and create a new one click . This takes time but can reduce the file size of your index. If you re-index (on your website) you need to run get file types again as the re-index process resets the file types to the default values.

Default Web page ie index.html (use a file in the root folder for your website, the index works through all sub folders except those excluded in the robots.txt file). To update the index either submit this form again to reindex the entire site or add the path from the root to the sub folder you want to index below ie 'contact/index.html' to reindex just the contact sub folder and all it's sub folders. The file must exist in the sub folder.

2. Do this to capture the file types as reported by your server (our sever for the demo). Use the maintenance pages to select the file types to index (HTML, ASP and text).

3. This can take a long time (over 10 minutes) but is quicker than re-indexing. Please click only once and be patient. Your server may not let scripts run for long enough for this script to finish indexing your site. The script page sets the timeout to seconds. The default for IIS is 90 seconds. This may not be long enough depending on how large your site is. If you encounter this problem you can increase the timeout or contact your web server's administrator. Alternatively you can index your local copy of the site, upload the database and then only perform updates online which take less time.
